I can usually tackle packing for a long weekend away in about 20 minutes. Between my no nonsense attitude, capsule wardrobe and knowing my favorite products, it is usually a breeze. (Sheldon totally knows when we are getting ready to leave and doesn’t move from my side.) But this weekend, we are headed to a wedding, and my makeup bag needs to be fully stocked. Between a few events and trying to squeeze in some alone time with my hubby, there will be a lot of makeup on my face in a short amount of time. I wanted to share what’s in my travel makeup bag just in case you find yourself in the same predicament! Carry on space only, but full face necessary. Challenge accepted!
I will be taking my skin care in a separate travel bag, so I have a tiny bit of extra room to fully stock up on everything I want for a glam look to barely there brunch makeup. I searched a few what’s in my travel makeup bag posts on Pinterest just to make sure I wasn’t forgetting anything! (This is always my downfall.)
Base
I have been trialing a few different full face foundations to find the best of the best, and while the verdict is still out on that one, I decided to bring along the Revlon Colorstay foundation in the combination/oily formula. I am the shade 220. Paired with a bit of the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfecter in Opal, it gives the most beautiful, flawless but glow from within finish to the skin. Bringing the big guns with the fullest coverage concealer on the planet – Tarte Shape Tape. The shade I use is “light sand.” Zero dark circles, even with an early morning flight. I love the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in “dim light” for every day setting, but I am going for my tried and true Rimmel Stay Matte in “translucent” just to make sure that everything stays in place all night long.
I am only bringing one blush and one contour/bronzer. Too Faced Chocolate Soleil matte bronzer in Milk Chocolate is the perfect color on my skin tone to both bronze up my cheeks and contour. It has very little orange tones and tends to be a little bit ashy, which I really love! As for blush, my ride or die Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in “exposed.” If I ever find a better blush color for every single lip and eye look, I will be shocked.
Eyes
This was the hardest thing for me to decide on. I hummed and hawed a lot, but knew I wanted to take a palette, just because you get the most bang for your space. After a lot of back and forth, I decided to just go for a classic. The Urban Decay Naked 1 palette. This is like the OG of eye palettes and I love the shade range. “Darkhorse” is the perfect liner color and “buck” does wonders in the crease. From full on glam to a ridiculously easy day time eye, you can pretty much do anything with this one.
Minis are made for travel. I snagged a free gift with purchase and got to try the Estèe Lauder Sumptuous Knockout mascara. I absolutely love it for every day, natural lashes. And since I am obviously going to be wearing falsies for evening, this is perfect. My favorite affordable liquid liner from Essence made the cut as did my holy grail Anastasia Brow Whiz.
Lips
I find lipstick the easiest to decide on, probably because it is my favorite thing to apply. I could not fly with out my Glossier Balm Dotcom in “coconut,” so that will be kept on me at all times. As for lipstick, everything needs to be long wearing and you only need three options. A perfect nude. A true red. And a bold, fun choice just in case you are feeling a little daring.
- Anastasia Liquid Lipstick in Dusty Rose
- Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lip in 500 Fire Starter
- Urban Decay Vice Matte Lipstick in Menace
Everything fits perfectly into a little black bag and I don’t have to worry about losing things in the hotel or having excess that I won’t actually use.
