I am beyond excited that it is fall. Chunk knits, spicy cookies, and crisp leaves on the ground. There is just something about the start of a new season that gives me all the feels. Especially fall. It is the start to the holidays, everyone gets into a good routine after school has started, and magic starts to happen. I have goosebumps just thinking about it!
But as I scroll through Instagram and browse Pinterest, I am totally overwhelmed by decor options. So much of what I see is over the top, and living in a small space doesn’t equate to a lot of storage for when they season is finally over. And what do you do with all of the stuff?!
For someone with a bit of a minimalist heart, but with a passion for the season, I wanted to find a few bits and pieces that would warm up our home, but store away easily or transition into another season or room. Even the smallest of things can make a huge impact when you have been used to looking at the same decor on the regular.

First up, I obviously swapped out our throw pillows. Target is crushing the game with fall decor this year that isn’t too farmhouse or covered in quotes. That’s just not my thing. I found these gorgeous, big euro pillows with an orange and blue plaid. I love the navy woven in, such a fun twist on traditional fall colors.
I added in this fabulous orange mini pillow along with a yellow, crushed velvet next to a West Elm canvas pillow I had used all summer. Keeping things in mind like, “can I use this another time,” or “will this work with other colors,” really helps to reduce things. (I am already thinking the yellow pillow will be perfect with some blush/mauve in the spring!)
To keep up with mixing textures, I picked up this super soft, faux fur throw. It is so soft and warm, and exactly what you want to snuggle up with in the evening. Best paired with hot chocolate!
I wanted to add a little magic, so I used these leaf lights from a few years ago (Target has a similar string here) to drape over our window sill. My oldest is already in love and turns them on for me every evening when it’s time for dinner. I just LOVE creating little traditions like this!
I used some faux foliage to pop into a tall vase, and it really just brings everything together. You don’t have to have pumpkins exploding out your ears or a dried leaves infiltrating every corner to make your home feel like fall.
I also added in just a small little faux potted plant in our bathroom to bring a little love to it. I have some gorgeous cream colored hand towels with some maroon detailing on the way to complete the space!
How are you decorating this year? Or do you skip it all together?
