Last year I put together a summer bucket list for my oldest and I. Not to put more pressure on myself, but to make sure that we didn’t waste our summer doing the same thing every day, hitting the same parks, and forgetting to adventure!
I went through some old summer photos with my oldest, and we created our bucket list for this year! School isn’t out for another three weeks, but I am ready to get the summer started ASAP!
If you are heading to the city this summer, this list might give you some good ideas of things to do with kids. If you have been a few times and aren’t interested in seeing the usual tourist spots, this list is for you!
I highly suggest creating your own summer bucket list whether you have kids or not. It is so easy to let time slip away from us, and before we know it, we didn’t do any of the fun things that we had planned in our minds. Write things down. Create a plan with your fam. And be flexible.
Other than a few events in the city, I have zero scheduled plans for the summer. I am planning to fly by the seat of my pants, and wing it. With this list as our guide! We can pick and choose which things we want to do that day or week, and repeat the best of the best!
2019 Summer Bucket List
- Early morning park date at Vesuvio Playground in Soho with Cronuts and coffee from Dominique Ansel Bakery.
- Listen to the New York Philharmonic in Central Park. This is one of my favorite events of the YEAR.
- Pick your own strawberries at Alstede Farms in New Jersey. This will be our third year running!
- Riding scooters, blowing bubbles and drawing in chalk in the middle of Park Avenue for Summer Streets.
- Eat all the treats at Smorgasburg.
- Hit up the Bronx Zoo and spend the whole day visiting the animals.
- Rooftop swimming!
- Sneak out of the city for a weekend out east. It isn’t a New York city summer without an escape in the Hamptons.
- Watch a Yankee game!
- Take the East River Ferry to Governor’s Island. Picnic, bike ride, and run wild on the car free island.
- Play in the sand and catch a few waves at the beach by taking the LIRR to Jones Beach on Long Island.
- Ride a few rides, eat cotton candy, and picnic in Central Park by heading to Victorian Gardens.
- Wave hi to Lady liberty and play at one of the best parks in Manhattan down in Battery Park City.
- Trek to Coney Island for hot dog and fireworks. They go off at 9:30 every Friday night through the summer!
- Movies in the park – Parks all over the city play movies throughout the summer. We have a few dates in mind to attend!
- I have plans to take my oldest to his first Broadway play this summer! Either Frozen or Aladdin!
- Visit The Met to see the pyramids and armory before splashing through the Ancient Playground.
- Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to play at the Pier 6 Playground. Finished up with Ample Hills Creamery ice cream.
