I love me some skin care. I am one of those people who take great pride in my routine, and can’t remember the last time I didn’t wash my face before bed. There is nothing more relaxing for me than wiping the day off with a good massage.
But much like a great pair of earrings or cute handbag can complete an outfit, masks can take your skin care up a notch and add some extra oompf to your routine. Whether you need a boost of hydration, a little extra exfoliation, or you are on the path to remove some age spots or reduce your fine lines, a mask can be perfect accessory for your basic skin care routine.
I like my masks how I like my cocktails – strong, single ingredient (or focus), and immediately effective. I don’t have time to sit around for 45 minutes with mud on my face. I want to be in and out in under 20 minutes with something to show for it. I’m not here for subtleties.

The Five Masks in Current Rotation as We Head For Cooler Weather
The weather is a huge mishmash of hot and humid with brisk and chilly mornings. It is already making my skin start to freak out a bit, so I am taking some preemptive action. Dry skin is my number one issue during the cooler months. With that comes the need for some extra exfoliation, so I have those two goals in mind with my skin care additives.
SUMMER FRIDAYS JET LAG MASK
I just picked up another tube of this beauty of a treatment. A sleeping mask like this is one of my favorite things because there is no downtown. Do you usual routine, and skip the moisturizer. Top off your serums with the Jet Lag Mask and hit the sack.
I always wake up with dewy, plumped up skin. I still struggle a bit with adult acne, so being able to get a massive hit of hydration and not break out is a feat in and of itself. I use this once a week at the moment.
TULA MAJOR GLOW
This is a double duty sheet mask, and pretty much the only reason I put up with the drama of wearing one. Sheet masks are usually low on my list because you can’t really do anything with it on. But the Major Glow by Tula is amazing. It not only gently exfoliates, it hydrates at the same time.
I love to use this on the day I have an event or want to look extra glowy for date night. It isn’t so harsh on the skin that it make my face red, but it is effective enough to give me a nice smooth canvas for make up application. The vitamin C brightens up my complexion and the probiotics help pull in hydration.

FARMACY HONEY POTION RENEWING ANTIOXIDANT HYDRATION MASK
Skip the overly long name for this mask and focus on the good stuff. I love the entire Farmacy brand and their mission for cleaner beauty. The Green Clean Cleansing Balm will forever be in my skin care routine, but this honey mask is also really special!
It warms on your skin as it sits, which is the most relaxing experience. This is a great mask to do before bedtime. This one is all for the hydration and glow, so I like to do this after using an exfoliating toner. I wake up with the most beautiful skin!
GLOW RECIPE WATERMELON GLOW
The Watermlon Glow mask has been a cult favorite for a few years now, and it never disappoints. I just picked up another jar of this beauty to get me through the weather changes.
First of all, it smells like a straight up watermelon jolly rancher. My husband loves when I crawl into bed with this on. Second, sleep mask. Need I say more? No, but I will! This is packed with great AHA’s, which help gently exfoliate the skin as it sits on your face. A quick rinse in the morning and you will have baby’s butt skin. Trust my on this.
CAUDALIE ISNTANT DETOX MASK
I’ve been searching for a detox mask that isn’t too intense on my skin. Sometimes, a stronger charcoal mask can do the opposite to my skin and irritate it to the point I break out more! That’s going to be a no for me.
This Caudalie clay mask is super gentle, but still really effective at cleaning out my pores and leaving my skin feeling clean and luminous. I always follow up with some serious hydration, even going in with the Jet Lag mask.
