I am SO excited for this Christmas! I am sure I have said that no less than 100 times in the last three days, but it is true! One reason I am extra excited, is because this is going to be a big Christmas in our home. Because we are giving my oldest a trip to DisneyWorld!
Let me preface this by saying, I was initially REALLY worried about gifting an experience like this to my oldest when we weren’t going to immediately be packing up our bags and heading off to Orlando. But I came up with a great idea that will really help my oldest get excited and not feel let down when there are minimal gifts under the tree.
It is a little intimidating gifting a younger child something intangible. But I think it is important to start teaching our kids young that a gift isn’t always something you can unwrap or play with that very moment!
We were all in need of new luggage this year (it had been nearly 10 years since we bought new suitcases!). It made sense with our upcoming family trip to Disney, and I knew it would be a great way to “gift” my oldest a trip. While I was brainstorming, I decided to make all of the gifts for the family have a travel theme as this will be our first real family vacation together!
We aren’t going to Disney until President’s Day weekend in February, which is quite a long time for a five year old. Inside his suitcase, I packed up a cute little countdown chain I made with a ring for every day until our trip and some cute faux tickets that have our trip details on them! It gives him a bit more of a physical perspective of what he is actually being given and how long it will be before we go!
I did a ton of research on luggage and what would be best for our family. We obviously live in a small space, so I knew we weren’t going to go for large luggage that would take up a ton of space or require us to check for each trip. From what I read, hard sided luggage is the way to go nowadays! And so easy to clean!
I found these amazing Heritage Lincoln Park Hardside Spinners that I knew would be perfect for both Mr G and myself, and my oldest! They are compact and super lightweight and the wheels glide like a dream. They will be easy for him to pull through the airport and manage himself on our trip, something this mom really appreciates!
They come in different colors, and we all got a color of our own. It is the little things that will tickle my oldest and make it more special. Having a suitcase of his very own will be VERY special!
The suitcase will be the ONLY wrapped gift from us under the tree, and to make it go a little further, I wanted to pop in a few travel bits and essentials that I know we will end up purchases anyway to complete the gift!
I’ve put together a round up of my personal travel essentials, one for my oldest and one for MR G. So, regardless of who in your life is the “traveler,” there is a gift for everyone!
