I usually share a book list every season with my personal reading list and goals for the upcoming few month. But you guys told me you would much rather me share what I actually read and review the books I recommend more.
December was a big reading month for me, partly because I gave myself a work cut off around mid month, giving me lots of free time, but also because there is nothing like cozying up on the couch with a good book during the winter. I slammed out six books in the month of December, devouring a few within a day.
I am trying to expand my literature horizons, and read a few more books outside my norm. But I also find that there are some books that get all the rave reviews and awards that just aren’t my personal cup of tea. And that is ok! I am never going to like horror films or political biographies. Just aren’t for me!
With that being said, I did read a few gems this past month and have a few that I would highly recommend!

One Day in December
This is a repeat red for me, so I wanted to knock it out first. I read it in 24 hours the first time last Christmas, and it is what reignited my love of reading. I LOVE a British romance, and this one is just so good. Love at first sight, but unable to be together, and following three friend’s journeys over the course of ten years. It is everything you want Love Actually to be but isn’t. Do yourself a favor and read this before heading back to work! This will probably be my Christmas book that I read every year.
The Course of Love
A friend suggested I read this book after chatting a little bit about how marriage takes a whole lot more work than people talk about. I will be real. I sobbed ugly tears during this one. I can’t quite pinpoint why this punched me in the gut so hard, but I was wrecked when I finished it. If you are in a long term relationship, I highly recommend!
Well Met
This was an easy, mindless read that you know the ending before it even begins. But with a little Shakespeare added in, I enjoyed reading every page. This is a light one to pop in and out of during your commute, and I found myself more invested in the characters half way through than I expected. A quick, light hearted read when you need a little romance in your life.
The Woman In the Window
Ok, this one was a pass for me. I heard so many amazing reviews about how creepy this book was. It promised a quick hook and lots of twists. But guys… This was like listening to my 90 year old grandma tell a story. SO SLOW. And I just couldn’t fall in with the style of writing. It was a decent story, but something about the writing just made this book drag on for me.
American Royals
I should have known this would be a good one, since Grace Atwood couldn’t stop talking about it! It is Gossip Girl meets the American Revolution. The premise of the book is if George Washington had decided to be a king instead of moving America into democracy. I totally thought it was going to be set in the 18th century, but it is modern day and ALL THE DRAMA. It won’t be winning any literary awards, but I will be front and center at the theater when this gets made into a movie. Can’t wait for part two in 2020!
The Thousandth Floor
I read this after American Royals, because I needed a Katherine McGee fix and couldn’t wait for the sequel. It was really good! Not quite as vortex inducing, stay up till two am as AR was, but still a solid read. I might be a little biased as a New Yorker myself… I’m onto book two as my next read!
Tell me what you have been reading and loving lately!
