This mask… I have so many thoughts! I first heard about this mask on TikTok (because where else do we hear about new stuff these days), and to say I was skeptical would be an understatement. But after experiencing over half of my hair falling out a few months ago, I was game to try almost anything that would strengthen the few strands left on my head.
The K18 Leave-In Mask has some bold claims, but I feel like they are actually valid! I started using this when I still had extensions in and have now also tried it with just my natural hair with the same success.
What it is…
This leave in repair mask is different than any other treatment I have tried in the past. You need very little product (even if you have thick, long hair) and yet it truly felt transformative the first time I applied it. The brand’s patented K18 Peptide is the “perfect size and molecule structure to penetrate the innermost layers of hair and reconnect broken keratin strands.” It is a super light, silky texture and is Clean at Sephora!
What it does…
If you have damage from heat, color, or chemical treatments, this mask is for you. It took my hair, esepcially my damaged ends from broken and brittle to soft, healthy, almost elastic with what appeared to be very little breakage after one use. I felt like I had gotten a haircut and brand new extensions after. I was blown away.
How to use it…
This is where I got a little skeptical. You are meant to shampoo your hair as normal and skip any conditioning treatment. Just get out of the shower. It felt so bizarre to leave my hair that way. After towel drying, you apply one pump at a time from your ends up to your roots. When I had extensions, I used two full pumps, and now I just use the one.
The mask recommends you use it for four to five washes in a row before slowing down and using for maintenance. I can attest to the effectiveness of this! I’m now using once every third wash, and will keep this in my hair care routine for a very long time!
