I started doing a version of a capsule wardrobe a few years ago. I was broke AF, didn’t have a lot of money for clothes, but wanted to feel like I had a lot of options. Enter in the capsule wardrobe!
The basic premise of a capsule, is that you have an edited number of items that all work harmoniously together. Colors mix nicely, a variety of textures, and the ability to dress them up and down for any aspect of your daily life. And most importantly, that make you feel AMAZING. You would think that less clothes would be more restricting, but it is actually so freeing looking at a simple closet and knowing exactly what you can and WANT to wear.
At the moment, I don’t practice a strict capsule, but I try to be thoughtful about what I bring into my closet. I decided to put together a little mini capsule for you guys. And it was SO EASY, because I was already being conscious about what I have in my wardrobe. I didn’t need to buy a single thing, and was able to create twelve simple outfits.
I wanted to do this capsule for right now. Meaning, perfect for this transitional weather that is chilly and brisk in the morning and then sweaty and suffocating in the afternoon. You feel me? There is no predicting the weather right now in the city, and these pieces give you plenty of wiggle room to dress appropriately.

THE CAPSULE
I decided to stick with just nine base items, not including shoes and accessories. You could easily add in a few more bits and pieces and extend this wardrobe even more. Here is what I put in mine!
- BLACK TANK TOP
- GRAPHIC T-SHIRT
- SHORT SLEEVE CHAMBRAY TOP (OR WHITE BUTTON DOWN)
- CREAM LIGHTWEIGHT SWEATER
- CLASSIC SKINNY JEANS
- WIDE LEG CROPS (YOUR COLOR CHOICE)
- MIDI LENGTH DRESS (ANY COLOR)
- CAMO MOTO JACKET (OR OLIVE UTILITY JACKET)
- DENIM JACKET
ACCESSORIES
I have been looking to switch up my handbags this fall, and I recently grabbed two new additions. They are both splurge bags, but I love to invest in my purses, as I am super hard on them. Also linking a few affordable alternatives to all three bags.
SHOES
This is where I had a hard time narrowing things down. But with just three different shoe options, you can create a ton of different looks. I would probably always have more than three pairs of shoes, but you get the idea with these!
- POINTED TOE FLAT (LEOPARD)
- WHITE SNEAKER
- LOAFER
I’m curious to know if you have ever done a capsule wardrobe? I highly recommend doing it! You might like the challenge!
