I have been meaning to head down to SoHo to the Universal Standard store for ages now. It used to be just a show room that was appointment only, but about a year ago they switched to being a traditional store front!
Sadly, I was chatting with one of the associates and they are going back to being an appointment only showroom next month, so I am so glad I had the chance to pop into the store!
US was started by two friends of different sizes, who decided to start making clothes for EVERYONE. Universal Standard is currently making sizing for 00-40. The most size inclusive line on the market, at least to my knowledge!
I have been a true lover of their classic Tee Rex t-shirt for years now, but wanted to explore a few of the other offerings!

UNIVERSAL STANDARD SIZING
Before I get into how sizing works at Universal Standard, I wanted to mention the coolest aspect of the brand. They have a policy called “Fit Liberty,” and the basic premise is that during the first year you own a garment, if your size fluctuates, they will replace your item with a new piece of the correct size.
How cool is that? No need to fear gaining a few pounds, or losing a few. Invest in clothing that fits in this moment, and if your size happens to shift within a year, you don’t have to feel like you wasted your money. So cool.
Universal Standard sizing is a little different than most. It starts at a “4XS” and goes to a “4XL”. A small is actually a size 14/16, and the middle of their size range. I generally wear a L or Xl, depending on the garment.
WHAT I TRIED
As I mentioned, I am a huge fan of the Universal Standard Tee Rex t-shirt. But I waned to try a few of their other tops!
On the left, I am wearing the V-Neck foundation t-shirt. It is ribbed and super stretchy. It is a thinner material than the traditional tee rex, but it makes the perfect layering top. Bonus points are that it is super long and great for wearing with leggings! In the foundation t-shirt, I like the fit of the XL over the L.
In the middle, I tried the Sandwash Jersey tee. This is one of their newer t-shirts, and I love it! It is super soft, and just skims the body like a dream. In the photo, I am wearing the XL, but I would prefer the fit of the L in this. It is a mid length top, not cropped, but not long either. I’m wearing the color sage.
On the right, I grabbed the foundation turtleneck to try. It is super long, just like the foundation t-shirt, but such a great layering piece. I’m wearing the grey, but ended up buying the black in the XL. The white foundation tops are a little sheer, so keep that in mind!
I struggle trying to find a shirt dress that fits both in my shoulders and in my mid section. But I absolutely LOVED this black Michelle Cupro Shirtdress. It actually has hidden snaps between the buttons to keep it from gaping while you sit. Totally genius. I tried on the XL in this dress and it fit great on my apple shaped body.
It is no surprise that I tried on this Emily Cupro Maxi dress in red. What a stunner! I would say to size down in this for most. I tried on the XL and it was too big in the top straps. The L was a little snug in my hips, so this is one I would take in for a quick nip at the tailor. It would be so fun with a leather jacket and some heels or accessorized with some sparkle for the holidays. Also comes in black.
Unfortunately, this dress isn’t available online. You can call and order it in the store, but I have no idea what it is called. 😛 It is the most gorgeous linen blend dress, and I almost bought it. I am wearing the L here, and I would say to go down if you are between sizes.
I’ve linked a few of my other favorite things from the brand below. They have so many great basics, and the quality is really top notch.
