Ever since my oldest was born, I knew I wanted reading to be a big part of his life. You can’t force your kid to love something, but I wanted to try as hard as I could to nurture a love of books.
For the past three years, I have made a point of “holidaying” his book shelves. Whether it is Valentine’s Day, July 4th, or Christmas, I want him to get excited about the holiday and adding to his book collection is an easy way to do it.
Young kids grow and develop so quickly, and we don’t have the most space in our little apartment. So, I didn’t want books sitting around for a whole year, waiting for their season for my oldest to have possibly outgrown them. So, I started taking full advantage of our amazing library system.
About a week before the “season” of whatever holiday is about to come up, I head to the library website and put reservations for a bunch of holiday specific books. I have them delivered to my closest library location, and when they arrive, I just pick them up! It is so easy and fun for me to do for my oldest.
I put together a little November Reading List for kids’ Thanksgiving books if you would like to join in this holiday season! If you love adding to your permanent book collection, grab them on Amazon at the lowest price. Or just be like me, keep it minimal and free, and use this as a guide for your own local library!
