At this time last year, I owned ten pairs of shoes in total. This included flats, sneakers, and boots. And while that kind of sounds like a lot, I have now come to realize that a good pair of shoes can totally make or break an outfit.
My goal this year was to step up my accessories game, and I think shoes fit into that category. I’ve been slowly collecting, hunting and figuring out what my personal shoe style is. And I have formed myself quite the shoe collection.
This year, I have grabbed a few ankle booties, something I would never have done in the past. Multiple pairs of the same style?! Never! But I now realize that color, shape and even style within a style of show make a big difference.

FOUR TIPS TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN STYLING ANKLE BOOTIES
- SHOW A LITTLE SKIN – If it isn’t too cold outside, showing the slightest bit of skin at the ankle can really accentuate your leg shape. It breaks up an otherwise chunky boot and makes your outfit looks tailored and chic.
- TUCK IT IN – If your jeans aren’t super skinny at the bottom, consider adding in a knit sock to tuck them into. It gives the same effect that showing a little break does for your jeans by emphasizing the smallest part of your leg, your ankles!
- BE SELECTIVE – Don’t settle for just any boot. Ankle boots can be tricky depending on where they hit on your leg. Look for a bootie that comes below your ankle bone, or above it, not cutting it off in the middle. A bootie that dips down just a bit in the front is also very flattering.
- COLOR BLOCK – If you are wearing a skirt or boots that may not be most flattering, consider keeping your legs all the same color. Black booties with black tights. Brown booties with brown trousers. It will really make your legs appear super long!
