I shared on Instagram the other day that I felt like I was grieving the summer. Every year on Memorial Day Weekend, I have put together a bucket list of things to do with my son throughout the summer. From catching waves at the beach to walking the Brooklyn Bridge to ice cream cones in Central Park. With the current state of the city, I just don’t know what our summer will look like and it is pretty hard to plan.
But I refuse to let Covid-19 stop me from making amazing memories this summer. As hard as it has been to manage my anxiety during this time in New York City, I am so grateful for the life I live with my happy, little, family. M is turning six this year, and I want us to have the most amazing summer.
As we were getting ready to go out the other day for a walk, M walking out of his room with his mask on, no reminders, nagging or asking needed. I had this moment thinking about had sad it was that he just knows at this point, and it isn’t even a discussion anymore. And then I realized that it isn’t sad. It is just different. Different from what we are used to. We are so lucky that we are healthy, able to help protect our community and continue to live through this pandemic with the ability to go out at will. Safely. Respectfully.
So, while I might not have jumping in a pool every day on my summer bucket list, there are still so many things we can do.
