This past week was one of the roughest weeks emotionally I have had in a while. There were so many ups and downs. I know I am not alone in these feelings, and I don’t think they are going anywhere anytime soon. The world is shifting, and the big things happening outside our doors has made enjoying the little things harder.
I wanted to start a fun little weekly series on the blog recapping the best things that happened during the past week, whether it be fun things I read, great recipes I discovered, great clothes or beauty bits, and all things in between. Hopefully, this will help lift your spirits and serve as a bit of my own gratitude journal.

I recently signed up for Book of the Month, and have really loved the subscription. I’ve been mostly reading on my Kindle for the past few years, but it has been nice to actually have physical copies!
I finished two books this week, Big Summer and The Guest List. I thoroughly enjoyed The Guest List! The description of the craggy Irish island immediately drew me in, and I couldn’t guess the ending at all! I picked Big Summer up without reading the book jacket and strictly based on my love of Jennifer Weiner. The first half of the book was like reading my own words. I had no idea what I was in for, and while I don’t want to spoil the plot, 10/10 recommend! The main character, Daphne, is a plus-size influencer who spoke directly to my soul a few times.
It has been a hot minute since I saw something and IMMEDIATELY felt the need to have it. I came across A.A.K.S bags over the weekend and snatched up this bag instantly. It hasn’t even come yet, and I already know it is going to be my go-to this summer. They are handmade in Ghana, and I loved the ethos behind this black-owned business.
I’ve been wanting to get my ears pierced one or two more times for ages, but I am too chicken to go through with it. I got an ear cuff from Natalie Borton through her pre-order, and am totally down for the vibes it gives. I may not be brave enough yet, but maybe after rocking this faux cuff, I will take the plunge.
I know that this pandemic has effected everyone differently. I have always been slightly anxious, but never felt like I had to deal with true anxiety. Until now. I am wracked with fears, guilt, shame, and so much stress around every single choice I make. I am working towards regaining some control and making small outings around the city helps! It feels big and scary in the moment, but both Little G and myself feel so rejuvenated when we get home. Ok, I feel both refreshed and completely emotionally drained, but we are getting there!
We took to the Met Steps, Brooklyn Bridge Part, Strawberry Fields, and South Street Seaport this week. The fresh air and sunshine did us so much good.
This article by Rachel Miller on how to speak with your relatives about racism was a great read. I really appreciated that she highlighted that we need to educate ourselves first. I know that there are many areas where I have a lot of learning to do, and this is a reason why I may stay quiet on some issues. Asking questions, educating yourself, and acknowledging ignorance are the first steps to knowing better and doing better.
My favorite new follow on Instagram is hillhousevintage. Paula has gorgeous style, lives in THE DREAMIEST English manor, and radiates joy and hope with every one of her posts. I know it is a little cliche to say this, but she is GOALS for who I want to be when I grow up. I initially followed for her walks through the British countryside and impeccable interiors, but I have stayed for her heart and her voice.
I would love to hear the best bits from your week, too! xxx
