With Valentine’s coming up, I knew I wanted to put together some kind of budget gift guide. We are on a pretty tight budget in our house, so gifts are often pushed aside for more “necessary” things. But I really wanted to get Mr. G. something special this year to show him how much I appreciate all of his hard work. Men are never easy to shop for, mainly because I think they are so easy to please! Finding something that is really special is harder than you think.

I decided to do a little digging and go check out his Amazon history. Muahaha. I had never done this before, but it was seriously brilliant! All of the little gadgets and things he had looked at in the past few months were right there, just waiting for me to hit “one click purchase.” I’ve rounded up the things that I think most men would appreciate and all of it is under $50! Totally budget friendly and sure to show your hubby that you put some thought into their gift. (No watches or ties will be mentioned here!)
Everything is on Amazon Prime, so no need to worry about shipping fees or getting to you in time for V-Day. Also, I decided to go for Amazon, because if any of the stuff I ordered ended up being cheap, not just budget cheap, easy returns! I purcahsed every item on this list and can vouch for each one!
Mr. G. has been complaining about his backpack he uses for work for months. But spending over a hundred bucks on a backpack wasn’t something he wanted to budget in. He has put it off for way too long. I wanted to get him something durable, that wouldn’t fall apart after too many subway rides, that had a few pockets and was also an upgrade in style from his old Nike backpack. Stumbled across this one in his browser history and snagged it! Only $35, and really nice quality! It will even fit his monster of a laptop in the padded pocket.
A lot of these gifts are for the man who is gone all day at work, but a reusable water bottle is the perfect gift! Especially a splurge one, like a Hydro Flask. They are stainless steel, no straw to clean, and we have never had one leak before. Ever! Mr. G. is the type of dude who keep a gallon jug of water next to the bed, because he is always thirsty. I swear he was a camel in a previous life! We like the 32 oz bottle. Big enough to hold a good amount of water, but not going to take up an obscene amount of space.
It took me a long time to cave and buy one of these. We have a smart tv for music and phones with Siri to answer our questions and set our alarms. But guys! This thing is so fun! I love taking it around the house (worth unplugging it and moving locations) and using it while I am cooking or cleaning. It can play audiobooks and connects to my Spotify account. We also started using this as an alarm. Mr. G. and I are making a big effort to spend less time on our phones in the evening and be a little more present with each other. Plugging our phones in the other room and going to bed device free has been a really nice change. Try it!
Don’t hate me for this one. I know a shaving kit seems a little generic, but my husband is OBSESSED with this stuff. He got a The Art of Shaving kit for Christmas and hasn’t stopped talking about it. Every time he shaves… But it has taken me nearly seven years to get him to care about his skin at all, so I feel like this is a step in the right direction! Men deserve a little pampering, just like we do.
This was my stocking stuffer for Mr. G. at Christmas. Not going to lie…. Totally made him cry! You could easily DIY something like this, but I love that it is bound and going to last a while. He keeps it in his desk drawer, and will pull it out every now and then to send me a little photo of something that made hime smile. I’m not usually one for cheesy gifts, but Words of Affirmation are his love language. So, I indulge him from time to time.
Cookbook
We love to cook and have a real date night in. It is an easy way to spend time together without having to schedule a babysitter or spend a ton of money on dinner out. Flip through a cookbook together and choose a recipe. Go shopping together for the ingredients (even if you have littles in tow!) Put those kiddies to bed, pop open a bottle of wine, and chef it up together in the kitchen. Cookbooks make great coffee table books, but they are also a great way to expand your own skills in the kitchen, encourage your hubby to get his hands dirty and cook you a meal and it’s pretty much a premed date night whenever you have a Friday night free. Here are a few of my favorites!
There are tons of ways to spoil each other with the holiday coming up. Remember, you don’t have to buy one another anything. Challenge each other to be creative and make cards for one another. Make sure you remind your hubby that grocery store flowers are just as nice and a quarter of the price. Give gifts of service, things you don’t normally do for one another. For us, that would be me taking Sheldon out for a walk in the morning or Mr. G. doing laundry. You don’t need to spend a lot of money to make this holiday special!
What will are your Valentine’s plans this year??
