Why are we still observing Daylight Saving Time?? As a mom of a school aged kid, it is probably the worst “event” on the calendar. I used to think it wasn’t a big deal, but now we have to be out the door on time. An hour less of sleep is not helping this mama’s dark circles out! I get asked often about how to fake a good night’s sleep, so I am sharing my best products and hacks for fresh skin and bright eyes. Fake it till you make it, right?
Eye Cream
Believe it or not, your makeup can only do so much. Starting with a brightening eye cream will help reduce puffiness and give that “lit from within” glow that I love when I am feeling dull and tired. I have been using the Origins Ginzing Refreshing Eye Cream for years and just keep repurchasing. It leaves just the slightest pink, pearlised cast under the eyes that help to counteract any blue circles and reflect light onto that sunken area. Plus, it smells like oranges! Super refreshing.
Concealer
I never had a friend keep as good of a secret as concealer. It can hide everything from a pimple caused by too much chocolate, a rough crying session or a few too many glasses of wine. When going full glam, there is no fuller coverage than the Tarte Shape Tape, but when I am wanting to look fresh and natural, the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer is my go to. It is still super good coverage, but it isn’t quite as heavy as the Tarte. It has a little bit of a luminosity to it that just makes you look like you had a solid eight.
Brows
Not everyone may agree, but I will do my brows before mascara any day. I think lifting up that brow bone area wakens up the face even more than lashes can. If I am in a rush or just looking to keep things natural, I love the Benefit Precisely My Brows to quickly define and lift my brow area. The pencil is super soft, so it just glides on like butter. Once it dries, it is set for the day and will last till I take my makeup off.
Blush
Keeping things fresh with just a bit of concealer and a light sweep of blush is key to getting that “I’m still in my twenties but I just turned 30” skin. π To get that just pinched cheek look, I keep the blush closer to the apples of my cheeks, instead of bringing it up along my cheekbones. My favorite peachy pink blush of the moment is Nars Orgasm. It has a slight shimmer to it, so you can skip the highlight while still looking glowy! Such a classic blush.
If all else fails…..
Bold lipstick, large latte and shades can always save the day. Β You can’t go wrong with a pair of aviators and ruby red lips. Nothing says you own Monday morning quite like a boss lip using Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella. If you can’t actually get in those full eight hours, fake a good night’s sleep with those sunglasses, girl!
Forget you, Daylight Saving Time. We’ve got this!

I love daylight savings!! Growing up in New Zealand, I loved when the sun was out until 9pm in summer. Then I moved to Hawaii where it doesn’t exist and the sun set before 7.30pm every single night of the year and I hated it. But I don’t have kids nor do I NEED a good nights sleep so I can definitely see where you’re coming from!

What great ideas! I too cannot stand daylight savings time, Spring is less disruptive at this point because my littles are too little for school and busses to effect their mornings, fall is our aweful time!… but it sure gets to me still!
Raluca says
Awesome things. I will definitely try them. I havenβt have a good night sleep in almost two years. You can imagine how I look haha
Jen @ Jenron-Designs says
You have a fantastic fresh look, I will have to check out your concealer options as mine has become very orangish as of late. Either my skin tone really changed or the company changed their formula, either way I have notice a odd Oompa Loompa cast under my eyes that was not there before. LOL
Maddy says
Thanks, Jen! Some products oxidize over time, which is always super annoying!
Nicole says
I am willing to bet that the guy who came up with day light savings time didn’t have kids or animals!!! I’m struggling to stay awake today and I’m thinking maybe some eye brightening cream and some concealer might just be the magic – or maybe I need the whole enchilada to make a difference today! Thanks for the tips π
Maddy says
Hahahaha. This made me giggle. I bet he didn’t have kids, either! xxx
Julie Plagens says
