I can’t believe I ever questioned myself on this cardigan from Old Navy. I wasn’t sure I would get that much wear out of it, or if it was even really my style. But the longer it has been in my closet, the more I just LOVE it.
The sweater comes in a few different colors and runs generous. I went with my normal size, as I wanted to be able to wear it as a shirt without the buttons pulling at my chest. If you are only thinking of wearing it as a cardigan, you could potentially size down, but that is the joy of a grandpa sweater. It is meant to be oversized.
There are no rules when it comes to styling clothes. Just like with makeup, do what suits you! But for me and this sweater, there are a few rules I seem to unintentionally follow.
- FIND YOUR WAIST – I think this is a good rule of thumb for most outfits, but especially when you aren’t wearing anything fitted. Even when all of your clothes are on the more baggy side, you can still create some shape by bringing some attention to your waist. A front tuck, high waisted skirt or a knotted top all add a little definition to your look.
- KEEP IT LONG – I have tried a few rounded neck cardigans like this, and they just aren’t as good. The v-neck, the big buttons, and a long necklace all create a very elongated look for each of the outfits, even when I am just wearing a T-shirt underneath.
- KEEP IT FEMININE – This is something I do subconsciously with all of my outfits. I learned about “the points of femininity” from Karla Reed a few years ago, and they have stuck with me. Neck, wrists, waist, ankle. Especially when wearing something menswear inspired or oversized, showing these points really keeps your outfit polished. You don’t have to show all of them, but by just scrunching your sleeves to show your wrist, or keeping your jeans above the ankle make a huge difference. Just try it!
