Praise the gods, the sun is finally out and the temperatures here in the city are rising! It feels glorious. We are getting settled into our new place and back into the routine of things. Which means date night is back on! Mr. G and I are only five years into marriage, but I firmly believe that dating your spouse is the best thing you can do for your relationship. But… We can totally get stuck in the rut of dinner and a movie. So, I’m putting together my top five summer date ideas in NYC for your inspiration and my own!

When you book a babysitter in, you know you are going to get the most out of your night. So, I wanted to put together some ideas for those gorgeous spring nights that give you a taste of summer as well as a few that will keep you hidden from the April showers that show up out of no where. There is not thing worse than a wasted sitter!
1. Get Your Art On
This might seem a little cheesy or touristy, but trust me on this one! The Metropolitan Museum of Art is hands down one of my favorite date night spots. Taking Mr. G. out to the met a few weeks ago was one of the funnest date nights we had in a long time. The Met stays open late every Friday and Saturday night, making it the perfect night out. Enjoy an hour or two without kids browsing the temporary exhibitions, like the new Huma Bhabha exhibit on the Cantor Roof Garden. (The rooftop garden is one of my favorite spots at The Met Fifth Ave. It isn’t the easiest to find and so it is rarely crowded and you get a beautiful view of the the park and the city. So romantic!) Walk down Fifth Ave to La Charlot for wine, frites and the best mussels in the city.
2. Let’s Get Physical
I recently got to hit up Swerve Fitness in Flatiron for a spin class. They are totally different than your average spin class, because you get set up on teams. This would be such a fun way to start off a double date! Get everyone together on the same side and sweat your butt off for forty five minutes to amazing music. You get points for sticking to the beat of the song and staying in the instructors metric goals. You get to be held accountable and work hard without ever feeling like you are on your own. It was SO much fun.
You can get a complimentary ride when you create an account at www.swervefitness.com. Grab one ride using the code MADDYG100, and you are good to go! If you are already a Swerve fan, you can get 10$ off a return ride using the code MADDY2018.
It is impossible to leave a class at Swerve Fitness feeling like you didn’t succeed. Complete endorphin high, which makes for a great way to shake off a rough week of parenting and work. They have showers, towels, toiletries and lockers, so you can get cleaned up really quick before heading out for a well deserved burger at Shake Shack in Madison Square Park. Pretty much date night goals right there.
3. Be a Kid Again
We were taking a walk through our new neighborhood last week and finally came across the famous Modern Pinball Arcade. It is a tiny little hole in the wall shop that you could easily miss if you aren’t paying attention. But when you walk in, it’s like you stepped into the 80’s. Rows of pinball machines line the little arcade. And the best part is, you don’t need coins or anything. A free play wristband lets you go as many rounds as you want. A little friendly competition never hurt anyone! Take a short walk down Third Ave, and grab a few pork buns and a bowl of ramen to share at Momofuku!
4. Sail Into the Sunset
When you live in the city, it is easy to take all the magic for granted. But even a New Yorker needs to be reminded of why this city is so great. Take the East River Ferry from Manhattan over to Brooklyn Bridge Park. Walk along the Pier and check out that gorgeous skyline while the sun sets. Head over to The Chip Shop for a pint and the best fish and chips this side of the Atlantic before heading back to walk over the Brooklyn Bridge. It may be a little cheesy, but that is where the romance lies!
5. Honorable Mention – Brookfield Place
There are few places to watch the sun go down in Manhattan quite as amazing as Battery Park City. You can do some window shopping and grab a bite all in one place. Brookfield Place is always putting on events and shows in there outdoor space, so be sure to check the website to find out the best time to go!
What is your dream date in the city?
This is such a unique list and they all sound so much fun! This sounds kind of silly and totally touristy but I would LOVE to go to a Yankees game with my husband. He’s such a die hard fan. I’ve never been to the city though. Definitely on my bucket list!
These are great ideas! I was recently in NYC, and I’m dying to go bag hopefully in the summer when it’s a little warmer.

That sounds like a lot of fun. My favorite thing to do is to be a tourist, see the historical parts even if I seen them before.
summer in NYC is my favorite! i adore walking through central park and their summer musicals/concerts!
Such fun ideas! I’d love to take my husband to New York one day – he’s never been. I like these ideas because they aren’t too overwhelming especially if your in the city
Bring him! <3
I’ve never been to NY but I can’t wait to visit. Now I might just have to bring my sweetie with me so we can try out some of these summer date ideas. Thanks for the awesome suggestions.
If you plan a trip, let me know! I love playing tour guide and giving all my best kept secrets! <3
I do not live too from NY and I like the idea of the spin class at Swerve Fitness . We love to double date . Working out together for forty five minutes to amazing music would be an experience to remember.
A workout class is such an awesome date. I’m sure you can find a local class to take! <3
What great date ideas! I’m not from NY, but I’m sure I can find the equivalent of all these in my own city!
Yay! It is so easy to forget about all of the things our homes have to offer! Playing tourist in our own city is so fun! <3
How romantic! I would love to sail into the sunset on a nice boat with great company.
It isn’t fancy, but it makes for some fabulous memories and a great Hollywood style kiss. 🙂
I used to live in NYC and there was also something awesome to do. Thanks for compiling this great list. Can’t wait until I am back in the city to take advantage of these ideas!
Come back soon! <3
New York is a fantastic city. Its so nice to read about it through the eyes of someone that lives there. I cant wait to try some of your recommendations the next time I visit.
Hurry back to visit! <3
These all sound like they would be a lot of fun!
Love a good dinner and a movie, but sometimes you have to shake things up! <3
While I don’t live in New York, the arcade idea is such a good one. In LA we have a few places that are restaurants and bars but also arcades, which makes it a great spot for a longer date. You can go get yourself dinner, play some arcade games, and then grab yourself a drink.
Great list! x

Come back soon! <3
