If there is one thing in this world that I love truly and deeply, it’s lipstick. It is the one thing I always gravitate towards while browsing in Sephora or Duane Reade. I can never have too many colors, formulas or finishes. Definitely not a minimalist in the lips department!
With the holiday season in full swing, I wanted to talk about my most favorite lip products for any occasion. Each and everyone of these colors will work whether you’re dressed to the nines with a Smokey eye or heading to your family’s cozy cookie exchange in your favorite joggers.

The Classic Red Lip
There is nothing more holiday than a bold, red lip. A classic, blue toned liquid lip is my go to when it comes to rocking a cherry pout. It will keep your teeth looking white, stay put while you sip on your eggnog, and last for hours without bleeding into fine lines.
The Sephora liquid lip in 01 has been my ride or die red lip for years now. It is the perfect shade, lightweight and flawless. It’s pretty affordable, and I’m on my third tube. It’s that good!
The Sexy Nude Lip
It’s been a hot minute since I was into nude lipsticks. I’ve been wearing bolder and bolder colors for the past year or two. But during the Sephora Holiday sale, I snagged this awesome nude lip kit and have been hit hard by fleshy toned shades.
The lip I’ve been wearing over and over has been the Stila Stay All Day in Carmello. It is pretty much my perfect nude and would be flattering on so many skin tones. I like to pair it with this Buxom lipgloss for a pretty pouty look.
Nude lips are perfect when you’re wearing more makeup than usual, to keep things from being a little too over the top. But they are also perfect for no makeup days to just give you a little bit of polish.
Holiday Berry Lips
With all the beautiful jewel tones that come out to play in winter fashion, having something in your makeup bag that is a bit warmer toned than the classic red is a must. A rich, berry lip adds a bit of sexiness to a look (and can also pair as an easily matched cream blush!)
NARS continually knocks it out of the park with their lip colors, and this Power Matte Pigment in Under My Thumb is my favorite during the colder months. It’s so thin when applied, but completely opaque, making it super comfortable to wear all day.
Tips for Long Lasting Lips
- Prep those lips! Moisturizing is such an important step, especially when wearing long lasting, liquid lipsticks. Exfoliating the morning of with a warm, damp cloth with give you a fresh, smooth canvas to work with.
- Apply your lipstick to clean, dry lips. I will put chapstick or Aquaphor on while doing my makeup. Then, when I’m ready to walk out the door, I clean the cream off and apply my lipstick to dry lips.
- Seal your lipstick in. Setting your liquid lip, even those that dry matte, is key to getting it to stay fresh looking for hours. Much like you set your under eye concealer, you want to “powder your lips”. Using a very light hand, barely blot your lipstick with a translucent setting powder and a fluffy brush. You need very little product, so don’t go over board!
- Pack a gloss for emergencies. Sometimes, you just need to eat a burger or have a quick snog with your hubby and your lipstick can’t be salvaged without full on removal. Packing a similar colored or clear lipstick will let you refresh your look on the fly.
