I have been scared for years to branch out and try brands that toe the line of inclusivity. I think I have been burned too many times in the past. But over the last six months, I have been testing the waters and have been pleasantly surprised with what is out there!
Sèzane is one of those stores I have coveted for a very long time. They have the most beautiful sweaters, and the styling is always impeccable. They typically use very high-quality fabrics like wool and cashmere, making things forever pieces that are worthy of the investment.
Finding your size and what items are going to work for you may take some trial and error. For me, I know without a shadow of a doubt that pants and bottoms are most likely not going to be accommodating. But knitwear, jackets, accessories, and the like are often a lot more forgiving than you think!
And that is just the tip of the iceberg! Their leather goods like shoes and bags are drool-worthy! I am new to the brand, but my wish list is already getting long.
Plus Sizes at Sèzane
Let’s chat sizing. Technically, Sèzane doesn’t carry extended sizes. They go up to an XXXL, which they consider a size 16. After chatting with a few friends who always recommended sizing down in their sweaters, I took a gamble and made my first purchase!
I am a very solid size 20, or 2X. So far, I have only tried ordering things that are an XXL or XXXL. Most of the knitwear like cardigans and sweaters fit perfectly! Like, shockingly well. Not snug, just the perfect boxy fit I love. While that isn’t “inclusive” in the least, it is fun to branch out and be brave enough to try something new.
I have only had two items not work out for me. A sweatshirt and a pair of shoes. The sweatshirt was a hard no, barely fitting around my midsection, and the shoes were just not right for me.
Ordering Tips
When I placed my first Sèzane order, I knew some things weren’t going to work. I went in reminding myself of that when trying things on! Thankfully, they have a great return policy and their shipping is relatively quick (and free on orders over $200!), so you aren’t risking much by giving it a go.
A note about shipping and taxes…. Sèzane is shipping from France to the States, so in order to avoid paying import duties, keep your orders under $800 in a single day!
GASPARD CARDIGAN
This sweater is probably one of my favorites that I have tried from the brand. The blue is a gorgeous, rich navy, that still pulls very much blue if that makes sense. You can wear it with the buttons in the front or in the back, as the neckline is the same all around, making it really versatile! If you are sensitive to wool, this is a sweater to skip or know you are going to want a layer underneath.
EMILE CARDIGAN
Red is the color of the seasons, and this sweater is such a stunner. It is a really thick, chunky knit and the texture is so beautiful. The red is almost sold out, but it comes in a few colors! This is one of the sweaters I think could easily work for a 3X if you order the XXXL.
TRUDY JUMPER
I fell in love with the styling of the Trudy on the website. The soft blue with blue jeans was chef’s kiss! The gold buttons are a fun pop and the wool is really soft. This was one of the longest sweaters, which I know is often a struggle when you are plus size shopping in a straight size store.
LÉONTINE JUMPER
Best for last? This is by far my favorite sweater I have purchased from Sèzane. It is really light weight and such a classic style. It is made from 100% organic cotton, so it’s one of those sweaters you can wear even on warmer days. It comes in a few different stripe colors, but I got the Ecru Navy is timeless.
Shopping outside the plus world isn’t for everyone, and I know it can be frustrating when brands don’t want to include extended sizing. But there are a lot of options out there! sometimes you just want to wear what all the other girls are wearing, ya know? I also love showing these brands that all sizes look beautiful in their clothes. Sèzane, if you are seeing this, we are ready for more!
