Date night is so important in a marriage. And for living a happy mom life! It’s like the log to a fire. You have to keep adding another one to keep things burning, right? I know that it can sound obvious, but I know for so many of us, date night gets put on the back burner. Whether it be time, money, stress. There is always a reason to post pone it. And if we are being honest… As a mom of a little kid, date night can feel like way more work that it’s worth when the time actually gets here. You still have to spend a whole Saturday entertaining you kids, cleaning up messes and probably attending little Jonny’s birthday party on the other side of town. Then you’re supposed to get dolled up for a night on the town? Ha! Yeah, right.

Trust me. You and your marriage are worth the effort and the cash to get a babysitter. It is a non negotiable in our home. And if you can’t find a sitter, you should still plan a date night in, red lipstick and some lacy underwear required! If you are like me at all, and getting ready at six pm is the last thing that sounds fun, there are a few things you can do to freshen up your mom look with very little effort.
With a few key pieces and changes, you’ll go from play time at the park to margaritas and guac downtown in maybe ten minutes. Then just order the kids and the sitter pizza, and you’ve got a win.
Shoes
First thing to change that will make a big impact… shoes. I’m not usually one to wear a heel (tall girl probs), but I am working on breaking out of my comfort zone. The minute I put on a sexy wedge, like these, I’ve got a little swag to my hips and just feel good about myself. They definitely make a difference in the booth department, if you get my drift. You can also just pop on a nicer pair of booties or flats, and you’ve upped your game from the sneaker life you were living while playing soccer.
Clothes
When it comes to clothes, I always want to try to look cute. But, I rarely refuse comfort over fashion. I am just not in that stage of life anymore. I need to be able to roll around and sit on the floor to play super heroes, first and foremost. And we all know, we are going to end up doing one last round of playtime once we are ready to walk out the door. It is hard to say no! Here is my tip. Quit the cute sweater and throw something a little more edgy on over your plain white tee. It doesn’t have to be like you’re heading out to the club. It is just swapping your usual boyfriend cardigan for a moto jacket or fitted blazer will elevate your style enough that you feel like you fit in at the sushi bar.
Black is always going to be a good choice in my mind! This moto jacket from Skies are Blue came in the mail the other day and it is on point!
Makeup
Now, obviously a little oomph in the makeup department can go a long way. Hands down, slap on a bold, long wearing lipstick. I love the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cremes (Budapest is a gorgeous deep plum). Or just using something simple like a MAC liner in Ruby Woo,a classic red lip that will last through a few drinks or some popcorn in the theater. Smudge a dark shadow along your lash line to smoke out your eyes and thrown on a pair of fake lashes. You’ve glammed up your makeup just enough to feel like a goddess.
Hair
All I am going to say is DRY SHAMPOO. It solves all of life’s problems. Ok, that may be a bit extreme, but it will definitely solve your any hair issues you may have. Texture? Check. Volume? Check. Haven’t washed your hair in four days because you’ve been too busy mommying? Have no fear. Spritz some dry shampoo at your roots, let it sink in while you do your makeup, and shake it out. Victoria’s Secret volume in no time flat. You’re welcome!
If you keep your day time outfit simple with a ripped pair of jeans and simple top, you can literally change out and be ready to paint the town in under fifteen minutes. The pizza won’t have even been delivered yet!
I’ve shared my favorite layering pieces below that will help take you from day to night, while still feeling ultra comfortable!
Share with me your dream date night! Mine is fabulous sushi, a movie and walking through the city.
