With school out now, I am on the search for some great, screen free activities Marcus and I can do in the house. There are days, like today, where it is BOILING outside. Even the thought of the splash pad makes me start sweating. Marcus loves getting packages in the mail (who doesn’t?!), so I hunted for a monthly art subscription box that might be up his alley. I cam across KidArtLit, and loved their branding and mission, so decided to try it out!

Marcus has never really been into arts and crafts. While he loves reading and will sit for ages for book, coloring, stamping, painting… not so much. We’ve tried other art subscription boxes before and they always just missed the mark with holding his attention. With KidArtLit, the combination of the story and the art really helped Marcus “get it.” The crafts also intertwine with each other, building upon the previous activity and making connections to the book and the world around us.
Monthly Theme
When you get your monthly box, you will immediately notice a theme. Starting each month with a theme opens up so many learning possibilities. It gives you an easy topic to branch out from and create different activities both in the home and outside. For the month of June, the book chosen was The Honeybee, by Kristen Hall and Isabelle Aresenault.
The Books
There are a lot of boxes out there for kids these days, and we have tried A LOT of them. I was drawn to KidArtLit because of their incredible book choices. I peeked at a few of their past boxes, and the books were just stunning, unique and all seemed to have a great message behind them. They carefully curate each selection to ensure that every book is extra special.
As a family of three living in a one bedroom, we don’t buy a ton of books. When new things come into our home, I want them to be special. I never have to worry about it being a book we have read before or already have. They keep things seasonally appropriate and often choose new releases. The books are both beautiful enough to display and engaging enough to the attention of a young toddler all the way through big kids.
You know when you go into a fancy department store and they just have the more gorgeous toys and books? These are those!
The Crafts
Every box comes with at least two activities. One is a “Ready, Set, Go” activity. Marcus always wants to dive right in as soon as he sees the box, but it isn’t always the best time to get messy! The Ready, Set, Go activity is usually an easy, mess free craft that the story will touch on or that the second craft will build upon to use later.
The second craft is always open ended, leaving Marcus up to use his imagination and thoughts from the story to create something amazing. In The Honeybee, we learned all about how the bees create and store honey. On his own, Marcus created a beehive with cells he filled with honey he made from nectar. So adorable.
The three crafts from the June KidArtLit box kept Marcus interested the entire time. He even asked later to do them again and enjoyed trying them out in different ways that weren’t recommended. Exactly what I want from an art subscription box!
One of the coolest things KidArtLit, is it is founded by two amazing women, Julie and Megan. Two moms who spent their careers educating and found each other and reignited their passion for learning in their own homes. I love supporting small business, especially those of other boss moms. This is by far the best art subscription box that my bookworm heart loves.
You can try KidArtLit for yourself and sign up for the July Box now! I’m already counting the days till ours arrives in the mail!
Happy reading!
